I am woefully behind. Should be approaching 20,000 or at least over 10,000. But it's fun anyway.

There's an article in the Sunday Source section of the Washington Post about NaNoWriMo.

shamelessly stolen

"The only thing wrong with being an atheist is you have no one to talk to when you have an orgasm."

Got to love it.

New Agenda

This is now my NaNoWriMo blog. At least for November.

I followed the rules and started this morning. I've resurrected a literary fiction idea that has been bouncing around in my head for a while. It's about 2 daughters and mother who through some difficult circumstances find themselves living together.

Mr. Gumbel is a racist

Transcript of remarks by Bryant Gumbel on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO:

"Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ... So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin."

Wow. Because there aren't enough black people in the Winter Olympics, they are worthless. How insulting.

hypocrisy

Things you have to believe to be a Republican today.....
Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.
The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.
A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, butmulti-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.
If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, thendemand their cooperation and money.
Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing healthcare to all Americans is socialism.
HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.
Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, butcreationism should be taught in schools.
A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.
Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.
The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.
Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're aconservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.
What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but whatBush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

Not my writing. Was forwarded to me with note to disseminate.

warrantless listening

What's happening today:

The Senate Judiciary Committee opens hearings on President Bush's use of the National Security Agency to monitor domestic communications. Monday's lone witness is Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

I do not appreciate the President and his friends running roughshod over Congress. If they felt the law needed changing, they should have tried to change the law. There are good reasons we have a system of checks and balances. This administration frequently seems to ignore them. Why not just decided someone needs to be executed in the name of protecting the country from terrorism? Why not just lock up anyone whose looks you don't like? That is not how we operate in America. This is a democracy, not some totalitarian regime.
