Weird

Yesterday I unconsciously recreated the meal I'd written about for our real life dinner...WTF?

It wasn't until I was chomping down on a pickle that I realized what I had done.

I'm on target for 50,000. Would like to get to 60,000 if I can, but I'll be happy making fifty.

Day One NaNoWriMo

I've got a word count of 1690. Of course, at 6:00 p.m. EST I could not log on to the NaNo website to post my word count.

I intended to write to 2,000 but it was getting late and was time to make supper.

November 1st

In an interesting twist, I have decided that all my thoughts, jottings, and plotting that I have done in the month of October need to be saved for another day. On Tuesday I realized that I had far too much invested in my characters to use them for NaNoWriMo and that I needed a fresh start.

Luckily as I was driving down the road an opening line came to me. And there standing before me was a newborn character all shiny and ready for action. While waiting at my neighborhood pizza joint last night, two of her rules for living came to me out of the blue.

I am all set to jump into a convertible with this woman and head off down Highway 1.

New Slate

Time ignore that which went before and start clean.

This is my official NaNoWriMo support blog.

I've found a local IRL support group that I may check out. I'm trying to be serious about these 50,000 words.

But I've got some plot work to do before November 1st.

5,443 words

I am woefully behind. Should be approaching 20,000 or at least over 10,000. But it's fun anyway.

There's an article in the Sunday Source section of the Washington Post about NaNoWriMo.

shamelessly stolen

Got to love it.

New Agenda

This is now my NaNoWriMo blog. At least for November.

I followed the rules and started this morning. I've resurrected a literary fiction idea that has been bouncing around in my head for a while. It's about 2 daughters and mother who through some difficult circumstances find themselves living together.

Mr. Gumbel is a racist

Transcript of remarks by Bryant Gumbel on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO:

"Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them ... Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won ... So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin."

Wow. Because there aren't enough black people in the Winter Olympics, they are worthless. How insulting.

hypocrisy

Things you have to believe to be a Republican today.....
Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.
The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.
A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, butmulti-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.
If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, thendemand their cooperation and money.
Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing healthcare to all Americans is socialism.
HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.
Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, butcreationism should be taught in schools.
A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.
Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.
The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.
Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're aconservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.
What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but whatBush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

Not my writing. Was forwarded to me with note to disseminate.

warrantless listening

What's happening today:

The Senate Judiciary Committee opens hearings on President Bush's use of the National Security Agency to monitor domestic communications. Monday's lone witness is Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

I do not appreciate the President and his friends running roughshod over Congress. If they felt the law needed changing, they should have tried to change the law. There are good reasons we have a system of checks and balances. This administration frequently seems to ignore them. Why not just decided someone needs to be executed in the name of protecting the country from terrorism? Why not just lock up anyone whose looks you don't like? That is not how we operate in America. This is a democracy, not some totalitarian regime.

War On Christmas

I think the Christian conservatives who have gotten their panties in a twist over how the "evil" ones have stolen Christmas with the words, "Happy Holidays," had better look again.

If you have major problems with the spirit of Christmas, maybe you start with the crass commercialization that surrounds this day.

What does a guy in a red suit, a reindeer with a shiny nose, and Coca-Cola have to do with Christmas? Absolutely nothing, according to the Catholic church which invented the day.

Contemplating

a political blog.

I initially created this blog just to show someone how this could work for a group I was part of...

But it exists. And I have opinions. And I'm willing to share.
